| Abstract: | This paper begins by examining the history, efficacy, and controversy surrounding the use of Accutane as an acne treatment. The next part of this paper examines the ways the FDA and Roche itself have attempted to regulate against the dangerous side effects of Accutane and the litigation that has resulted from past failure to adequately address these side effects. The conclusion of this paper examines the lessons learned from the past history of Accutane regulation as a starting point for continued reform to ensure that an effective drug remains available to consumers while properly warning of dangerous and potentially life-threatening side effects. |
