dc.description.abstract | The history of experimentation with silicone injections shows the importance of regulation in curtailing irresponsible practices. The medical use of silicone fluid demonstrates that the informal moral and social controls that serve to protect patients do not always work. This history argues for a stronger regulatory stance in these times when medicine and science alike are impacted by economic incentives that conflict with human safety. | en |
