This article identifies six relevant processes that had changed the political regime of Mexico, which ended in the 2000 national election campaign. It notes that the 2000 Mexican national election was also a result of a complicated process where Mexican voters became the main protagonists of the creation of a more democratic political regime. It then explains the institutional reforms that allowed fraud-free elections in Mexico, and considers the impact of these reforms on the primary political parties.
