The transformation of Christianity in Namibia, from a colonial power to a liberating force, saw the church play a significant role in the fight for independence. As a result of this historical presence, it was expected that the church would take a proactive role in the reconciliation of the Namibian people in the new independent country. However, efforts toward church-led reconciliation were quickly quashed by a weakening of ecumenical bonds concerning social and political issues. Ecumenism was essential for church-led reconciliation.Terms of Use
