Shorenstein Center Working Paper Series 2000.2, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, 2000.https://nrs.harvard.edu/URN-3:HUL.INSTREPOS:37375929In my darker moments I feel like a virtual dinosaur. In fact I am a print foreign correspondent with 40 years of wars, rebellions, uprisings, crises, epidemics, disasters man-made and natural as well as bad whisky under my belt. These afflictions are not about to disappear from the face of the earth any more than the pleasanter aspects of life abroad, which I also have sought to explain to readers. Yet, the obvious explanation is that classic foreign news coverage in the American media is at its lowest ebb in modern memory. This paper will attempt to explain why, note some possible repercussions and try to guess what will emerge from the present period of rapid transition in the media unprecedented since I wrote my first story in 1957.en-USThe Decline, But Not Yet Total Fall, of Foreign News in the U.S. MediaResearch Paper or Report2023-06-02
