Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine: October 2016, Vol. 140, No. 10, pp. 1104-1110.0003-99851543-2165http://nrs.harvard.edu/urn-3:HUL.InstRepos:42668768Context The International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR) is a not-for-profit organisation formed by the Royal Colleges of Pathologists of Australasia and the United Kingdom, the College of American Pathologists, the Canadian Association of Pathologists-Association Canadienne des Pathologists (CAP-ACP) in association with the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC), and the European Society of Pathology (ESP). Its goal is to produce common, internationally agreed, evidence-based datasets for use throughout the world. Objective and Design This paper describes a dataset developed by the ICCR expert panel for the reporting of malignant mesothelioma of both the pleura and peritoneum. The dataset is composed of elements ‘required’ (mandatory) and ‘recommended’ (non-mandatory), which are based on a review of the most recent evidence and supported by explanatory commentary. Results Eight required elements and seven recommended elements were agreed by the expert panel to represent the essential information for the reporting of malignant mesothelioma of the pleura and peritoneum. Conclusions In time, the widespread utilisation of an internationally agreed, structured pathology dataset for mesothelioma will lead not only to improved patient management but provide valuable data for research and international benchmarking.en-USJournal Article2017-09-2220172020-05-2610.5858/arpa.2016-0073-oa
