In three parts, I consider why mutual transformation is not just necessary to unstick our current economic framework, it is possible at the individual, relational, and community levels. First, I defend my claims against Capitalism, and I excavate the big assumptions at its heart. Then, I develop an alternative option of Beloved Economies. Finally, I propose four spiritual moves that I believe are necessary to move us towards that future. Each part concludes with an interlude in which I share personal experiences or learnings. Throughout, I draw upon economic and spiritual scholars, leaders who wrestled with moral quandaries, and practitioners of alternative economic movements.
