Neuronal Calcium Activity Responses to Epileptiform EEG Events in the Kainic Acid Mouse Model of Early Epileptogenesis. Master's thesis, Harvard University Division of Continuing Education.31564719https://nrs.harvard.edu/URN-3:HUL.INSTREPOS:37379601Epilepsy, a prevalent neurological disorder, often involves complex neuronal activity changes during epileptiform events. In this study, we explored neuronal activity modulation in response to epileptiform EEG events using a kainic acid-induced mouse model of early epileptogenesis. We employed two-photon calcium imaging alongside ECoG recordings to observe neuronal responses, particularly focusing on interictal spikes. Our findings reveal significant modulation in neuronal activity surrounding these spikes, indicating differential responses of excitatory and inhibitory neurons in the retrosplenial cortex during early epilepsy stages. These insights enhance our understanding of epileptogenesis at the cellular level and could inform the development of targeted therapeutic strategies for epilepsy.application/pdfenepilepsyepileptogenesisBiologyNeurosciencesNeuronal Calcium Activity Responses to Epileptiform EEG Events in the Kainic Acid Mouse Model of Early EpileptogenesisThesis or Dissertation2024-10-23
