Abstract

In 2009, for the first time, more private work was performed in the New York City commercial construction industry by Non-Union labor forces, than by the previosuly dominated Union labor forces. How did this happen, why did it occur, and is there anything the Unions can do going forward to try and recapture some of the lost marketshare - or is it gone forever.
