Darkest of Angels

Abstract

My novel Darkest of Angels is half romance, half fantasy adventure in a dark setting. Its world came out of my longtime love for the fantasy and folklore genres and all the creatures imagined within. I’m interested in exploring monsters of all types– the folkloric ones and the human ones. In this book I consider what it means for a young woman to be a monster in society: how she first rejects her own monstrosity, and how she eventually learns to bare her fangs. In this book I dream of greedy, monstrous people, but also of knights and princes who believe that the grim world they live in is worth fighting for. In my writing I hope not only to provide a world for readers to escape into, an adventure to be swept away on, but also an affirmation of their inner selves: for who doesn’t dream of having the power to change the unjust things in their world, or to be loved for exactly who they are, thorns and teeth and tears and all?
