Devi, Tanaya. 2020. Essays in the Economics of Crime and Education. Doctoral dissertation, Harvard University, Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

Abstract

My dissertation deals with topics in crime and education. In the first chapter (joint with Prof. Roland G. Fryer Jr.), I study the impact of federal and state “pattern-or-practice" investigations on crime and policing. In the second chapter, I analyze an unprecedented dataset from the Indian Judiciary for in-group biases among judges. In the third chapter (joint with Prof. Roland G. Fryer Jr. and Prof. Richard T. Holden), I study the impact of differently aligned incentives on student achievement.
