Abstract

When a family man kills his wife and children and then himself, he sets off a tidal wave of grief and mourning that touches the lives of those on the periphery of the tragedy. “The Hour of Lead” explores the stages of grief across time and the ways that trauma can shape the lives of those touched by the tragic event, either directly or indirectly: the murderer’s young mistress, the detective, the best friend, and the newlyweds who unwittingly move into the scene of the crime.
