Abstract
Abstract
This original creative work examines the ties that bind us to our home countries, communities, and identities. It begins with the shooting of a Black teenager at the hands of a white police officer. This officer (Danny) comes from a long line of law enforcement personnel, and his brother, also a cop (Matthew), is married to a Black woman named Robyn. The child's death sends shockwaves through the community and begins to splinter his once-happy marriage.
Robyn is a Caribbean immigrant to the U.S. and a Caribbean History professor at a local university. She possesses a unique gift of perception and vision, but she doesn't see the violence circling her community until it's too late. When her husband becomes embroiled in the tensions overwhelming their small, divided community, she must decide if she will walk among those who protest brutality or stand with the man she loves.
