Abstract

In this paper, I apply attachment theory and the therapeutic skills it represents to hospital/health care chaplaincy to show the ways it benefits patients and loved ones in the hospital. Through case examples, I explore how emotional safety is possible in this environment. In addition, I provide examples of how attachment theory can be used in Clinical Pastoral Education to train chaplains. Finally, I gesture towards an anti-racist approach to chaplaincy through attachment theory.
