I was having a lot of difficulty locating the entire original article "The Therapeutic Revolution: Medicine, Meaning and Social Change in Nineteenth-Century America" by Charles E. Rosenberg. I had searched through many databases available to me at my University but was unsuccessful. This article was crucial to my research paper and so this resource was very valuable to me.

I was so pleased to find Charles Rosenberg's classic essay on the therapeutic revolution available in open access. While I have a couple of Harvard degrees including a Ph.D., I am currently an independent scholar and public intellectual. My teaching is largely through blogging. With Open Access, I can write about 19th century medicine in a blog post and then link to the full article. This allows me to point a much larger pool of readers to a landmark piece of scholarship, and gives them a chance to learn in more depth. There's no use producing knowledge if it's buried in a locked library or behind a firewall.
