Abstract

Aside from health system reform, obesity is perhaps the most dis- cussed topic in health care in the United States, and certainly in the Ameri- can media. Healthy People 2020, a nation- wide health-promotion plan developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, named overweight and obesity as leading indicators of health and set the goal of lowering the incidence of obesity by ten percent by the year 2020.
