De Falco, Veronica. 2024. Essays on Financial Economics. Doctoral dissertation, Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Abstract

This dissertation is composed of three chapters on financial economics. The first essay studies investor heterogeneity and Large-Scale Asset Purchases and provides evidence that the impact of purchases by central banks on asset prices depends on the elasticity of the investor base of those assets. Building on this evidence, the second essay examines the indirect effects of asset purchases through portfolio re-balancing and shows that asset purchases by central banks have spillovers on non-targeted assets. The third essay studies the drivers of demand for safe assets by analyzing portfolio re-balancing of investors after the European Commission’s issuance of supranational bonds.
