Abstract
French Kiss is a love story told in memoir form. When the American author
realizes in her 40s that her life is reduced to an estranged, alcoholic husband, a
questionable job, and the wrong commitments, she does the only thing she can; she runs
away to Paris and into the arms of a Frenchman she has known for ten months beginning
with an eBay transaction, but never met in person. A three-week vacation turns into a
three-year love affair with a man and a city. Poignant and comical, the couple wrestle
with language barriers, cultural differences, the meaning of love, and a life-threatening
illness.
This thesis includes the memoir’s first eight chapters.
