Abstract

Black, Boricua and Online: Afro-Puerto Rican Feminist Movement Building Online and on the Island follows the on and offline works of contemporary Black Puerto Rican feminist movements and movement builders that center racial, gender and class justice on the island. I use both traditional methods of ethnography as well as online ethnography and content analysis to explore the Black feminist networks and connections on-the-ground in Puerto Rico and online across social media platforms. Using “Black Feminist Tactics” in organizing offline (Zambrana 2020) and building “Caribbean Cyberfeminisms” (Haynes 2016) online, Black feminist Puerto Rican organizers and movement builders document and archive their work, collectively changing narratives about Puerto Rican history, identity and, in particular, Black Puerto Rican peoples and communities.
