Abstract
How can reading stories help us become better caregivers? And what skills can Theravadin story literature build in the context of chaplaincy and spiritual care? Using original translations of the story of Kisa Gotami as guide, this thesis takes up these questions in tandem. While Kisa Gotami's story is often viewed as a tale of extreme grief, it is also a story about stories and, as such, offers novel ways of approaching narratives with attention and care.
