Abstract

Ten Oracles of the Birmingham Sibyl is a collection of seven extended prose poems and three lyric poems about Birmingham, Alabama. With the author’s original writing, these oracles blend the sibylline tradition with primary sources from the city’s past to comment on its growth in the twentieth century. The result is a literary memorial seeking a posture among the forces of industrialism, white supremacy, and environmental destruction.
