Abstract

Lynn A. Struve boldly places dreams at the center of historical inquiry in The Dreaming Mind and the End of the Ming World. Basing the book on dream-related writings produced by Chinese literati between 1550 and 1700, Struve intricately narrates the rise of dream sensibility that paralleled the collapse of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and its aftermath.
