Abstract
Seed of the Serpent is an epic fantasy novel set in a mythic stone-age past, wherein man must compete and contend with several species of intelligent beasts. The plot follows Reysen, a former warrior turned reclusive shepherd, who is on the verge of losing his humanity to isolation and loneliness. When a serpentine assassin attempts to kill him, he discovers his hidden ability to understand beast-speech, the telepathic language of the animal kingdoms. With war spreading through the kingdoms of beasts and threatening to engulf the villages of men, Reysen sets off with an ape, a wolf, a bear, and an eagle to seek a teacher, explore newfound talents, and face again the world of fear and violence he once knew. When he returns to find his valley threatened by the ape king’s marauding armies, Reysen must prove his worth by challenging an evil reptilian sorcerer and reuniting the worlds of beasts and men.
