In Memory Violet With You: A Dissertation in Poetry and Blues is an original collection of poems, songs, and sketches to be read, savored, and sung. The collection, which unfolds in a manner loosely resembling a play, centers on the extraordinary life-experiences of a mother and daughter from New Orleans, Louisiana, named Memory Violet and Poetry Blue. Blazing through diverse landscapes of space and time (from the Antebellum South, to the Hereafter amongst the constellations of Corvus and Cassiopeia), Memory Violet and Poetry Blue share with us their blues-infused sojourn across the vagaries and vicissitudes of life as African American women.
