Abstract

Withthesteadyimprovementoftechnologicalpowerandaccessibility,games havebecomewidespreadandpopularamongallages.Educationalgamesespecially havethepotentialtofosterlearningefficientlyandenjoyably.Thegoalofthisproject wastocreateanenvironmentalgamethatwassimultaneouslyengagingandrealenough toinformplayersaboutthenuancesofclimatechange.Thegamewasbuiltcompletely intheUnitygameengine,andreliesonanenvironmentalmodeltomakeclimate simulationsbasedonactionstakenbytheplayerin-game.Themodelrunsinthe backgroundwithinthegame.Theendproductachievedthisgoal,thoughwithalimited scope.Thegame,calledNP(NaturalPremier)Enviro(mental)Game24,makesuseof bothactiveandpassiveuseractiontoengageplayers.Thegamewasdesignedtogamify importantmethodsofclimateactiontogiveplayersinspirationonrealworldclimate problems.TheEnvironmentalscienceisalsoeasilydigestible,allowingforanenjoyable experienceregardlessoftheplayer’slevelofbackgroundknowledge.Thoughmuchof theprojectisthegameitself,thispaperisintendedtoprovidecontextonthepurposeof thegame,designchoices,andfurtherstepsbeyondthisproject
