Abstract
This dissertation examines the construction of a carbon dioxide removal system using the growth, lysis, harvest, drying, salting, and burial of cyanobacteria. It employs methodology from biology, environmental science, engineering, economics and social sciences in order to demonstrate the ability of such an algal carbon dioxide removal project to be operated at a cost of less than $100 per ton CO2 and the gigaton scale, while respecting ethical, political, and environmental concerns.
