Abstract
This project is an excerpt from a full-length novel in progress. In the space of one year, the novel explores the essence of family; from the lifelong impact of childhood traumas, and the commonplace yet lasting imprint of misunderstandings between siblings as well as between parent and child, to the difficult choices made when conventional family aspirations are disrupted. This excerpt begins at the start of the third act, when a tragedy befalls three sisters and the men in their lives are left wondering how and what, if anything, will knit them together going forward.
