I am a foreign/second language learner. I am also a graduate student who is interested in research on second language acquisition for middle grades and secondary school students. I have found that learning academic language has been a pressing issue for students lacking sound academic backgrounds in their first language. The material in this article is very relevant to my area of interest. I will be using it as a reference for a study I am developing on academic language instruction for English language learners in middle and secondary school.
