Story content
I am a PhD economist from a top school. I have taken a gap year, after leaving a tenure track job at a small liberal arts institution. I have a visiting position at a major policy institution. However, because I have no formal affiliation at present, I have limited access to scholarly articles. I am schedule to present at two major conferences in the next six months and open access resources allow me to continue to do scholarly work without hiccup. This is a fundamental way to ward away rapid deterioration of skills and forced exit from the workforce for skilled people like me, who have to take unconventional paths due to personal issues.
