I have found it useful in illustrating the role of the 'third variable' in vaccine effectiveness studies. Though confounding is talked about in many epidemiological circles, its specific importance in vaccine effectiveness studies and, how to adjust for it is not as easy. In discussions during the just-concluded World Immunisation Week program in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, I referred to your very well written paper to illustrate this concept.
