Abstract
Examines traditional interpretations of the hypothesis that language influences thought with emphasis on interpretations by B. L. Whorf. Research is reviewed that disconfirms the hypothesis and that supports the effects of language on memory, perception, problem-solving, inference, and judgment. The view that the language-thought hypothesis is disconfirmed is questioned. Renewed experimental interest, especially in the study of social cognition, is urged.
