Abstract
What I offer here may be read as a note of thanks I wrote to Michael Fried many years ago, and which I reproduce here with only minor changes. I delivered it aloud in his presence on the occasion of a panel discussion on ‘Art and Objecthood’ at the annual meeting of the American Society for Aesthetics, Washington, D.C., October 1999.
